“Sustainability” is the new buzzword. Every company on the planet now has a sustainability initiative built into its corporate ecosystem. While some are rushing to save rainforests, some are fishing plastic from the oceans in a bid to save humanity. And some like Acer are actually putting post-consumer recycled (PCR) plastic to good use.
Say “hello!” to the new Aspire Vero. The Vero was announced by Acer in May last year, as part of their “Earthion” platform, which is dedicated to tackling global environmental challenges as well as expanding Acer’s sustainability efforts. And looks like the company has done a commendable job with the Vero.
Who says sustainability comes at a cost of performance? Well, that’s not the case with the Vero. This laptop packs in an 11th Gen Core i7-1195G7 processor running at a clock speed of 2.92-GHz. You also get 16GB of RAM and 512GB of PCIe NVMe SSD storage. The laptop is also powered by Microsoft’s Windows 11 operating system.
In terms of look and feel, the Aspire Vero looks quite exciting. Acer claims that the chassis of the Vero is composed of 30% PCR plastic. The company also says that it has managed to cut CO2 emissions by 21% for the production of the chassis. That’s quite a feat, indeed! The keycaps, meanwhile, also contain 50% PCR plastic, and the Aspire Vero’s 100% recyclable packaging can be repurposed as a DIY laptop stand.
The body of the Acer Aspire Vero has a nice feel to it, something eco-conscious tech users will appreciate. The laptop flaunts yellow and volcano grey accents on its bumpers, and the text on the R and E keys has been inverted, calling out the 3 Re’s: reduce, reuse and recycle.
As soon as you open the lid of the laptop, you come face to face with a 15.6-inch Full HD IPS SlimBezel PCR display. On the right edge of the laptop, you get a USB 2.0 port, a Kensington Lock port, a 3.5mm audio jack, and the power and battery LED indicators. On the left edge, you get the power port, a LAN (RJ-45) port, an HDMI port, two USB 3.2 ports, and one USB Type-C port (USB 3.2 Gen 1).
You also get a web camera on top of the display, and a fingerprint scanner built into the touchpad. Acer’s new VeroSense software is also included with the laptop that lets you select a usage mode that has been optimised for energy efficiency and battery life.
Acer also throws in features such as Wi-Fi 6, TrueHarmony, and PurifiedVoice with AI noise reduction, which can be very useful during online meetings, which we have come accustomed to.
The overall build quality is very good and solid, especially for a laptop that comes with a chassis, part of which has been built using PCR plastic. The design is also top-notch and the feature sets accompanying this laptop are commendable. The performance is also very good, thanks to the solid specification included.
For a starting price of AED 3199, the Acer Aspire Vero sounds like a very good proposition. If you are eco-conscious and would like to buy a laptop that has been built using sustainability in mind but doesn’t skimp on performance either, the Acer Aspire Vero could be something you could start with.
